A coffee cream to be spread on bread, strained coffee cachaça and a coffee beer will be next on the list.

Cafene Innova was planning to launch Mimo, BitCoffee, at the Alimentare fair in Spain, but the Covid-19 pandemic changed its plans. The event was cancelled and they decided to launch it first in Brazil. Mimo, BitCoffee, the edible coffee, is presented in the format of a small coffee bean, weighing three grams, and is being sold in packages of 10 units and in three versions: espresso, latte and cappuccino, and also the zero-sugar version in the three options, with Stevia. The suggested price is R$ 6.80.

The company has an exclusive technology that produces Cafene, a coffee paste, extracted 100% from Arabica coffee farms Campo Alegre, Minas Gerais and Alvorada, in Alta Mogiana, São Paulo. “It’s an innovative technology because the coffee reminds us of chocolate, but it’s made entirely of coffee and doesn’t carry cocoa in the recipe. “We have the registration and patent of the entire manufacturing process, including in the USA, Europe and Asia,” says Pedro Melo Jr.

Coffee as a primary ingredient for cooking

“The creator was Flávio Abaurre, one of the company’s partners, whose family worked with cocoa for over 55 years. When affected by witch’s broom, they left the farms and started to produce cocoa butter and equipment for the production of the by-product. This same technology was used for the creation of the Cafene”, explains Pedro.

The company will explore three market niches for Mimo BitCoffee: as a side dish for coffee, instead of a petit four, which is served in cafes, hotels and restaurants; a line of products for the Food Service, with coffee ganaches to be used in beverages, cakes, toppings; and also, as a final product for retail, as Mimo, BitCoffee. Even before the official launch, the product has already been exported to Canada, USA and Japan.

Coffee Cream

The company is also investing heavily in the launch of Le Cafetier Coffee Cream, to be spread on bread and to be used in the filling of pizza, cakes, pastries, etc. “Nutella is made from hazelnut and chocolate and is a resounding worldwide success. We want to make our Le Cafetier Coffee Cream – made of coffee – an excellent and much healthier food option”, he says. Another promise of Cafene Innova is to make available a range of 27 products with Le Cafetier Coffee Cream, such as coffee chocolates with cupuaçu, açaí, table cream, vanilla, cinnamon, among others, keeping an eye on export potential.

“This is also a product that we want to export, mainly, to the Asian market. We still do not explore our coffee very well. Consider the case in Germany. They don’t have coffee plants there and still they are the largest exporters in the world. So is Switzerland, thanks to the work of food multinationals like Melitta and Nestlé/Nespresso. We want to change that picture,” says Pedro.

Cafene is produced at the company’s factory in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo, whose installed capacity is of 32 tons of coffee mass.

Coffee-based beverages

In addition to its own special coffee brand they hope to launch by the end of the year, Cafene Innova is betting on the Samanaú cachaça with special strained coffee, in 330 ml glass bottles, which will cost around R$ 9 to R$ 11. “Samanaú is produced in Rio Grande do Norte, and has already been recognized in the U.S. as the sixth best distilled drink and the best Brazilian cachaça, in the 17th Brazilian Wine and Distillates Contest,” he proudly says. Also, the American electronic magazine, Tastings, specialized in tasting beverages from all over the world, pointed it out as the best aged cachaça in the world in 2019.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, they are working to begin marketing the product in the second half of the year. The same applies to the coffee beer, with 11.5% alcohol content, which will probably be available even before the cachaça. “The brewing of this beer was developed by me. We understand that this is just the beginning. This market is huge and promising and we have several products on the shelf that we will explore at the appropriate time. Including healthy drinks for children, as a substitute for chocolate beverages”, he confides.
