The blend is the main feature of the virtual edition of the Bartenders & Baristas Challenge 2020 contest, which is being held in Brazil for the first time.

A drink full of personality: this is Carajillo 43, the fusion of the famous Licor 43 with coffee that has resulted in one of the most harmonious blends of flavors. The story told is that this typical Spanish drink was born at the time of the colonization of Cuba by the Spanish, who combined coffee with rum in their troops to give them courage during the battle, or “Corage” in Spanish. From then on, the word had its pronunciation changed to “Corajillo” and, more recently, became “Carajillo”.

In the old days, the blend was a shot of Licor 43 straight into the cup of coffee. Today, the most modern way is to add espresso to the Licor 43 along with ice or shake it in a cocktail shaker, and serve the drink in a lowball glass, “on the rocks”.

And it is precisely this perfect union that gives flavor to the Bartenders & Baristas Challenge 2020, a global scale contest between bartenders and professional baristas, and which aims to discover the best unprecedented recipe using Licor 43 and coffee. In its fourth edition, the competition will have an absolutely unique format: all stages of the contest will be held online through the website and social networks of the Spanish liqueur. And this year, Brazil will participate for the first time. The entries for the participation of Brazilians will go until August 9th.

“We have centuries of history in a drink to be shared in various recipes,” says Leandra Cappelli, manager of the brand in Brazil. She stresses that the idea of including Brazil in this journey is to offer support and solidarity to bartenders and baristas during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As in other countries, during the local stage, the contestants will have to film their own creations in order to be evaluated by judges selected in each country, and only one participant will move on to the next stage, which is the global one. Here in Brazil, the judges will be Gilberto Amêndola, Isabela Raposeiras, Adriana Pino and Tomas Lellis Vieira.

Professionals interested in entering the Licor 43 Bartenders & Baristas ‘Virtual’ Challenge 2020 must access the website www.licor43.com and fill out the registration form. After the registration, it is mandatory to post a video of the recipe on your social networks, in public mode, and add the hashtag #LICOR43BB2020. For questions or more information, access the complete regulation on the brand’s official website or send an e-mail to: licor43@estrelacomunicacao.com.br.
