A group of professionals from various aspects of the tea market in Brazil gathered together to create ABChá, the Brazilian Tea Association, thanks to the significant increase in the consumption of tea in the country.

“Several companies were founded in recent times as well as others already consolidated in the world settled here. ABChá aims to bring together people from this universe, with diverse intellectual and commercial knowledge, to ensure a quality standard of teas, courses and the like and to further stimulate the growth of this market, in a sustainable way, ”said the first president of Association, Caio Barbosa, himself an entrepreneur of the area, partner of Chás Yê, specializing in Chinese teas.

The Association will bring together all those who work not only with Orthodox teas, but also with blends, provided that they come from Camelia Sinenses. One of the group’s main tasks is to gather market data that can be shared with its members, as it has never been systematically compiled.

The president and his or her elected board’s term will be two years, ending in July 2021. One of the first actions was to prepare a survey, which was sent to companies and professionals in the sector. “The return was much higher than expected, about 130 people responded and are interested in joining ABchá, as soon as legal procedures permit”, said Caio. It is expected that, as of October, interested parties can apply.

“We are discussing the actions that we will put into practice, but I already say that on December 15, the World Tea Day, we will have an event to celebrate the date,” concludes Caio.
