Initiative aims to use tea culture to increase the children’s repertoire and sensitize the senses
Professor and pedagogue Welbi Lacerda, a music specialist, is also an enthusiast for Chinese culture and, especially, teas. He has already taken several courses with tea master, Carla Suaressig, in his spare time and practices Chinese painting with so much perfection that he was invited to demonstrate to the Deputy Prime Minister of China, Liu Yandong, when she visited São Paulo, all of his skills.
Thinking about how all this knowledge could be passed on to the next generations, Welbi set up a course on teas aimed at children at Sister Catarina’s school in Aclimação, São Paulo.
With the consent of the school board and the head teacher, Welbi spoke for two and a half hours about the teas, their different types, methods of preparation, etc., for an attentive young audience who also had the opportunity to prepare their own beverages. With ages varying from eight to 11, the dedicated students surprised everyone with their smart observations, which were far beyond any adults. Like when a student, upon smelling the aroma of one of the teas, noticed very characteristic scents, which are imperceptible for most of the Brazilian population.
