The Cup of Excellence Brazil 2018, the main quality specialty coffee competition in the world, is already open. Producers of specialty coffees – unpeeled and/or depulped/semi-washed cherries – have until September 4 to participate in the Pulped Naturals category. The producers of natural coffees – Naturals category – can register until September 11.
In the 2018 edition, participation is limited to one per property in each category. Thus, producers who own more than one farm or site can register only one batch per category of each property.
Another change is that, from this year, the maximum moisture content of the subscribed coffees should be between 11% and 12%. Samples that do not meet this requirement will be automatically disqualified.
The contest will reward producers in two modalities: The Cup of Excellence Winners and National Winners. The Cup of Excellence Winners will be the competition’s winning coffees, which will have scores equal to or greater than 86 points and will be offered on the winners’ floor.
In previous years, records of price per bag were recorded. The highest bid per bag was R$ 55,457.60 for each 60 kg volume, and the highest average price for the Pulped Naturals category was R$ 5,431.09 per bag.
