On the first day of the event, with an intense programming, it was difficult to choose what to watch
Covering the International Coffee Week is not an easy task, especially with a programming as diversified as it was yesterday. The doors of Expominas opened for visitors at 11:00 a.m., and soon miles of lines were formed. People from all over the world have come to the prestigious event, which this year, in addition to the regular program of courses, lectures and cuppings, is hosting four international barista championships.
The most anticipated talk of the day was undoubtedly that of the Australian Sasa Sestic, world barista champion 2015 and founder of Ona Coffee. Passionate about specialty coffees to the bone, Sasa also owns some farms in Central American countries, where he does many of his experiments with fermentation. At the end of the presentation, Sasa gave his opinion on the perception of foreigners, in general, about the quality of our specialty coffees. “The world still buys Brazilian best-selling coffees to make blends.” An answer that did not surprise us at all since neither Brazilians know the quality of the specialty coffees here, let alone the potentiality of our various terroirs.
And all day long, we had a number of presentations by the baristas who competed in the Latte Art, Brewers, Coffee in Good Spirits and Coffee Brewing Championships.
The high point was undoubtedly the presentation of Agnieska Rojewska, in Latte Art, probably one of the winners, given the quality of its performance. However, we will only know about that on Friday night.
And today, there is much more.
